The Hollywood Reporter has hit the scoop that Texas-born actress Amber Heard (aka Mrs. Johnny Depp) is in talks to join James Wan’s AQUAMAN as Mera, which will be produced by Zack Snyder.

If a deal makes, Heard will star opposite Jason Momoa as the female lead in Aquaman, several sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

She will make her appearance first in Justice League, the movie that introduces various characters and story threads to fully launch the cinematic universe based on the DC Entertainment characters.

Mera, in the comic books, holds a deep hatred for the Atlantis royal family and acts as a warrior just as she acts as a queen and loving companion to Arthur Curry, her husband.
This would seem pretty similar to Gorgo, played by Lena Headey in Snyder’s 300 who wields a sword as well as she can wield her diplomatic power.

The film, which hits in Summer 2018, is still undergoing a dual production based off of two separate scrips being developed concurrently- one by Snyder collaborator Kurt Johnstad and one by Wan collaborator David Johnson.
It’s safe to assume both of these scripts wont be having Mera, Queen of Atlantis, sitting idly by as her husband does all the work if Snyder and Wan’s treatment of female characters is to be followed.
There are no plot details or anything of the sort besides a single tweet from Wan when he was announced as director where he quoted horror master H.P. Lovecraft and hinted that Aquaman might face some dark, hidden, terrors beneath the sea.

Aquaman will appear in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in March, and has been hyped up by Snyder in the past, such as his calls into a Detroit radio station to defend the character who has unfairly been treated as a joke in the past, which is clearly what WB are going out of their way to correct by casting the intimidating and hulking Jason Momoa and hiring a horror/action director to bring his first solo adventure to the screen.

Aquaman has some cool abilities. His trident could cut the flesh of Superman if they came in contact. That’s a thing that’s in the canon. He’s super strong … It’s not to say that he’s in the movie or anything like that but … he has the potential to be bad ass.”

Henry Cavill better watch his back.
Don’t forget that Zack will be on Conan TONIGHT, January 13!
