New finding from the MPAA shows that an R-Rated version of Batman v Superman is coming to Blu-Ray later this year.
This month at the box office, the Ryan Reynolds-lead Deadpool broke box office records and became the highest grossing domestic X-Men film yet. That was a Rated-R comic book movie. Similarly, both FOX’s Kingsman: The Secret Service and Kick-Ass found success as R-Rated comic book films and all three of these have gotten, or are receiving sequels.
However, we cannot forget how memorable and iconic Zack Snyder’s own Rated R comic book movies — 300 and Watchmen — were to the box office, proving that unique adaptations of adult comic books have a place to thrive. Now, Zack Snyder is back with even more R-Rated goodness via blu-ray with an Ultimate Edition of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

The tip comes from StitchKingdom on Twitter, who posted the rating from the MPAA. Warner Bros’ submission for the film showcases that it’s from Warner Bros Home Entertainment, signalling a definite release on blu-ray and not theatrical. This isn’t the first time Snyder’s released Director’s Cuts or Extended Editions on Blu-Ray and we can probably, certainly, guarantee it won’t be the last time. Unfortunately, the MPAA rating doesn’t give us a clue as to whether or not how long this version of the film will be, but we know the R-Rating is definitely for violence, something Zack Snyder is not shy to.
What do you think of an R-Rated Batman v Superman Ultimate Edition? What scenes do you think will be added or increased with graphic violence? The Wayne deaths? Doomsday’s destruction? Sound off in the comments and let us know.
